Crownsville, Maryland

Crownsville is a census-designated place (CDP) in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, United States. The population was 1,757 at the 2010 census.[1] It hosts the Anne Arundel County Fair each September, as well as the annual Maryland Renaissance Festival for several summer weekends. A state psychiatric hospital was formerly in Crownsville. The area offers waterfront scenery and easy access to urban metropolitan areas and culture.

Crownsville is located at 39°1′27″N 76°35′54″W / 39.02417°N 76.59833°W / 39.02417; -76.59833 (39.024149, -76.598295),[2] 7 miles (11 km) northwest of Annapolis, the state capital. Maryland Route 178 (Generals Highway) runs through the center of the CDP, and Interstate 97 forms the southwestern edge of the CDP, with access from the north via Exit 5.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 5.1 square miles (13.2 km2), all of it land.[1] However, waterfront communities such as Arden On The Severn and Herald Harbor have Crownsville addresses.

As of the census[3] of 2000, there were 1,670 people, 485 households, and 392 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 300.7 people per square mile (116.2/km²). There were 516 housing units at an average density of 92.9/sq mi (35.9/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 80.36% White, 15.45% African American, 0.78% Native American, 1.50% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, 0.66% from other races, and 1.20% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.62% of the population.

Owings Mills, Maryland

Owings Mills is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Baltimore County, Maryland, United States. It is a suburb of Baltimore. The population was 30,622 at the 2010 census.[1] Owings Mills is home to the northern terminus of the Baltimore Metro Subway, and previously housed the Owings Mills Mall until its closure in 2015.[2] It is also home to the Baltimore Ravens' headquarters facility. In 2008, CNNMoney.com named Owings Mills number 49 of the "100 Best Places to Live and Launch." [3]

As of the census[5] of 2010, there were 30,622 people and 12,525 households in the CDP. The population density was 3,189.8 people per square mile (1,229.8/km²). There were 13,282 housing units, at an average density of 1,383.5 per square mile (533.4/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 34.3% White, 51.0% African American, 0.3% Native American, 7.8% Asian, 0.1% Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander, 3.3% some other race, and 3.3% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 7.0% of the population.

There were 12,525 households, out of which 29.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 37.5% were headed by married couples living together, 16.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 42.1% were non-families. 33.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 7.1% were someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.34, and the average family size was 3.01.

Mount Rainier, Maryland

Mount Rainier /reɪˈnɪər/ is a city in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States.[4] The population was 8,080 at the 2010 census.[5] Bordering Washington, D.C., Mount Rainier got its start as a streetcar suburb. (See Streetcars in Washington, D.C.) According to local tradition, surveyors from the Pacific Northwest named the town, giving the streets names such as "Shasta" and "Cascade". Historic U.S. 1 runs through the center of the town and serves as the main street and central business district.

As of the census[2] of 2010, there were 8,080 people, 3,344 households, and 1,735 families residing in the city. The population density was 12,430.8 inhabitants per square mile (4,799.6/km2). There were 3,601 housing units at an average density of 5,540.0 per square mile (2,139.0/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 19.9% White, 52.8% African American, 0.6% Native American, 2.3% Asian, 20.9% from other races, and 3.6% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 31.4% of the population.

Monrovia, Maryland

Monrovia is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Frederick County, in the U.S. state of Maryland. As of the 2010 census it had a population of 416.[2] The ZIP code for the area is 21770.

The original unincorporated community of Monrovia is located along Maryland Route 75 in southeastern Frederick County, 1 mile (1.6 km) south of New Market. The Monrovia CDP extends south of the original Monrovia as far as Maryland Route 80 and west to include nearly all of Ed McClain Road. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the Monrovia CDP has a total area of 2.2 square miles (5.8 km2), all of it land.[2]

Hanover, Maryland

Hanover, Maryland is an unincorporated community in the Baltimore/Annapolis area in northwestern Anne Arundel County, Maryland and eastern Howard County, Maryland in the United States, located south of Baltimore on the Howard County line.

It is located approximately at the intersection of Maryland State Highway 100 and the Baltimore-Washington Parkway. It is part of the Baltimore-Washington Metropolitan Area and is located just southwest of the Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (commonly known as "BWI"). It is bordered by Severn to the south, Linthicum to the east, Baltimore to the northeast, Ft. Meade to the west, and Columbia to the north.

Charlestown, Maryland

As of the census[3] of 2010, there were 1,183 people, 454 households, and 324 families residing in the town. The population density was 994.1 inhabitants per square mile (383.8/km2). There were 550 housing units at an average density of 462.2 per square mile (178.5/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 94.8% White, 3.7% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.1% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.1% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.5% of the population.

There were 454 households of which 31.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.8% were married couples living together, 9.0% had a female householder with no husband present, 7.5% had a male householder with no wife present, and 28.6% were non-families. 23.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.60 and the average family size was 3.05.

The median age in the town was 41.4 years. 22.5% of residents were under the age of 18; 7.5% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 26.1% were from 25 to 44; 32.9% were from 45 to 64; and 11% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the town was 50.3% male and 49.7% female.
