Hanamaulu, Hawaii

Hanamāʻulu (literally, "tired bay" in Hawaiian) is a census-designated place (CDP) in Kauaʻi County, Hawaiʻi, United States. It is the ancient birthplace of Kawelo, a member of Kauai's ruling family.[1] The population was 3,835 at the 2010 census.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 1.3 square miles (3.4 km2), of which, 1.1 square miles (2.8 km2) of it is land and 0.2 square miles (0.52 km2) of it (12.50%) is water.

As of the census[3] of 2000, there were 3,272 people, 902 households, and 738 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 2,907.8 people per square mile (1,118.0/km²). There were 947 housing units at an average density of 841.6 per square mile (323.6/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 8.2% White, 0.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 61.5% Asian, 5.8% Pacific Islander, 0.5% from other races, and 23.7% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 6.8% of the population.

Kailua, Hawaii County, Hawaii

Kailua is an unincorporated city (Census Designated Place) in Hawaiʻi County, Hawaii, United States, in the North Kona District of the Island of Hawaiʻi.[1] The population was 11,975 at the 2010 census,[2] up from 9,870 at the 2000 census. It is the center of commerce and of the tourist industry on West Hawaiʻi. Its post office is designated Kailua-Kona[3] to differentiate it from Kailua located on the windward side of Oʻahu island, and it is sometimes referred to as Kona in everyday speech. The city is served by Kona International Airport, located just to the north in the adjacent Kalaoa CDP.[4] Kailua-Kona was the closest major settlement to the epicenter of the 2006 Kiholo Bay earthquake.

The community was established by King Kamehameha I to be his seat of government when he was chief of Kona before he consolidated rule of the archipelago in 1795. It was later designated as the capital of the newly unified Kingdom of Hawaiʻi. The capital was later moved to Lāhainā, and then to Honolulu.

Royal fishponds at Kaloko-Honokōhau National Historical Park were the hub of unified Hawaiian culture. The town later functioned as a retreat of the Hawaiian royal family. Up until the late 1900s, Kailua-Kona was primarily a small fishing village.[5]:58 In the late 20th and early 21st centuries, the region has undergone a real estate and construction boom fueled by tourism and investment.

Anahola, Hawaii

During the reign of King Kamehameha I, the islands of Kauaʻi was one of the last Hawaiian islands to join Kamehameha's Kingdom of Hawaiʻi. The ruler, Kaumualii, resisted Kamehameha for years, surviving two attempts to invade Kaua'i.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 3.9 square miles (10 km2), of which, 3.8 square miles (9.8 km2) of it is land and 0.2 square miles (0.52 km2) of it (4.57%) is water.

Royal Kunia, Hawaii

Royal Kunia is a census-designated place (CDP) on the island of Oʻahu in the City & County of Honolulu, Hawaiʻi, United States. As of the 2010 Census, the population of the CDP was 14,525.[1] The area was recorded as the Village Park CDP in prior censuses.

Royal Kunia is located just north of Waipahu at 21°24′18″N 158°1′54″W / 21.40500°N 158.03167°W / 21.40500; -158.03167 (21.4052, -158.0318). It is bounded on the south by Interstate H-1 and on the west by Kunia Road (State Route 750).

As of the census[3] of 2010, there were 14,525 people, 4,014 households, and 3,524 families residing in the CDP. The racial makeup of the CDP was 12.5% White, 2.5% African American, 0% Native American, 51.7% Asian, 11.3% Pacific Islander, 0.7% from other races, and 21.7% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 9.5% of the population.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $103,649, and the median income for a family was $91,230. The per capita income for the CDP was $26,900. About 4.8% of families and 2.6% of the population were below the poverty line, including 8% of those under age 18 and 4.3% of those age 65 or over.
